Total Time:
10 minutes


1/2 oz tequila
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 oz simple syrup
1 oz red wine (such as cabernet)


  1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice; add all ingredients (except wine).
  2. Shake well; strain into a margarita glass.
  3. Add red wine floater on top of margarita. (To add floater, set a spoon at a 45° angle, barely placed inside of the margarita. The back of the spoon should be facing away from the drink. Place your finger slightly over the opening of the wine bottle and pour wine slowly onto the back of the spoon, letting it drizzle onto the surface of the margarita. Pour about 1 oz, until glass is full.)

Feeling sweet?
For a sweeter drink, rim the margarita glass with sugar.

Make it a Southern-style margarita.
Add a splash of orange juice and 1/2 oz orange liqueur in step 1.
