Sesame Tuna Steaks with Spicy Mayonnaise

Ingredients

4 tuna steaks (3/4-inch-thick)
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons canola oil, divided
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1/2 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sriracha sauce

Steps

  1. Preheat large nonstick sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Coat tuna on each side with sesame seeds, and salt. Heat canola oil and 1 tablespoon sesame oil in pan, then add tuna and cook 3–4 minutes on each side (for medium-rare) or until seared.
  2. Combine mayonnaise, sriracha, and remaining 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Slice tuna and drizzle with sauce.
Always check fish for bones and cook to an internal temperature of 145°F.

Other Preparation Methods

  • Grill: Preheat grill (or grill pan). Season 4 tuna steaks with 1 tablespoon chipotle-garlic seasoning and grill 3–4 minutes on each side (for medium-rare) or until seared. Whisk together 1/4 cup jalapeño jelly and 1 tablespoons liquid smoke. Brush on steaks during last minute of cooking.
  • Broil: Preheat oven to broil. Season 4 tuna steaks with 1 tablespoon tomato-basil seasoning; place on baking sheet. Broil (on center rack) 3–4 minutes on each side (for medium-rare) or until seared.
