Beer-Simmered Bratwurst with Onions

5 (3.8-oz) links bratwurst (or mild Italian sausage)
1 (14-oz) package fresh fajita mix (fresh sliced bell peppers and onions)
1 (12-oz) can beer (or 1 1/2 cups water)
5 Publix Bakery hot dog buns, sliced open
10 teaspoons Deli-style mustard


  1. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Place sausage in pan; cook 4–6 minutes, turning often, or until browned. Add fajita mix; cook and stir 2 minutes.
  2. Add beer and bring to a boil. Reduce heat on pan to medium-low and cover; simmer 15–20 minutes and until sausage is 160°F.
  3. Slice buns in half lengthwise, leaving 1/2-inch uncut. Spread 2 teaspoons mustard on each bun; top with sausage and 1/2 cup vegetables. Serve.
